Charlotte Bronte first published the book as Jane Eyre: An Autobiography under the pseudonym Currer Bell, and it was an instant success, earning the praise of many reviewers, including William Makepeace Thackeray, to whom Charlotte Bronte dedicated her second edition. Charlotte Bronte (April 21, 1816 - March 31, 1855) was an English novelist and the eldest of the three Bronte sisters whose novels have become enduring classics of English literature.
